AmeriCares HomeFront

AmeriCares HomeFront is a one-day community-based, home-repair program that helps homeowners who are financially and/or physically unable to maintain their homes. Repairs are made by teams of sponsored volunteers at no cost to the recipients. Operating in over 60 communities last year, some 8,000 volunteers repaired 133 homes in Connecticut's Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford and Litchfield Counties as well as in New York's Westchester and Putnam Counties.  May 1, 2004 marked the seventeenth year of this "neighbor helping neighbor" program and the fifth year of TCC involvement. Some forty to sixty TCC members gathered to work on a home in Stratford that day. Among this group were three or four TCC volunteers who did the heavy planning, staged the materials needed and closed the job weeks later.

The goal of AmeriCares HomeFront is to make each home safe, warm, and dry. Local volunteers work hand-in-hand with AmeriCares staff to provide improvements and repairs that will be the most meaningful to the homeowner. Repairs can include painting, plumbing, yard work, carpentry, electrical work, weatherproofing, etc. AmeriCares HomeFront relies on contributions from companies and from individuals to cover the direct cost of the program. In addition, local suppliers and manufacturers donate materials, and professionals donate their services. There is no cost to the homeowner receiving assistance from AmeriCares HomeFront.
